Christmas Crafts

One of my favorite things about this season is making crafts with my kids! I will try to post with updates throughout the month so you too can make some crafts with your kiddos! Today we made quite a few things! First we made a robot and beaded penguins with kits bought from Hobby Lobby. I must admit….I really made these as they were too complicated for my little tots! But they had fun nonetheless!

Green Bean Casserole from scratch

I’ve never made green bean casserole before, so this year when I was put in charge of this Thanksgiving dish I set out to find the best recipe. I didn’t have to look any further than one of my dear friend’s website called The Cooking Bride. Lisa has some incredible recipes, so definitely check out her site! Here’s my green bean casserole made completely from scratch. I even used some of my homemade chicken broth!

Here’s the link to her original recipe if you too would like to give this a try. You will be surprised at how easy this comes together and even more so how delicious it is! I had many comments about this being the best green bean casserole my friends had ever tasted!

Caramel Buttercream Cupcakes

I have found a new recipe for buttercream that I think is my new favorite!  So I thought I would share my favorite buttercream recipe with a twist…add caramel!  I love this caramel buttercream. It pairs quite well with yellow or white cake!

  1. Make your favorite cupcakes!
  2. Here’s how to make the buttercream (to frost 24 cupcakes generously):
  3. Take three sticks of unsalted butter and let soften to room temperature.
  4. Measure out 4.5 cups of powdered sugar and place into your mixing bowl.
  5. Add the butter to the powdered sugar and mix until fluffy…..takes a few minutes.
  6. Add in 6 teaspoons of vanilla and mix.
  7. Add in 4 Tablespoons of heavy whipping cream and mix again.
  8. Pour a jar of caramel sauce into the icing and mix well.
  9. Ice cupcakes as desired!

*If you want to make just regular buttercream just forget the step with adding caramel!

Pumpkin Shaped Rolls

Here’s a fun little project for you to do with the kids! Make pumpkin shaped rolls!

DSC_0023

You will need bread dough (can use premade frozen rolls or your favorite dough), scissors, egg wash, and stems (almonds or any kind of nuts).

DIRECTIONS:

  • Take out your dough and let it thaw for an hour or so.
  • Use scissors to cut slits into the dough….don’t cut all the way to the center. Make it look like a flower.

  • Let dough rise for an hour or so more.
  • Brush with an egg wash to make the rolls shiny. (I used one egg and 2 T water mixed together.)
  • Insert almonds into the center.

  • Bake as directed on package.
